Pedalpalooza Cruller Crawl

The Sisyphean Hill Climbers put together a fabulous early morning ride from Wilshire Park up to the top of Rocky Butte.

Lots of delicious donuts were provided - more than we could eat! So I strapped some to the basket to share with coworkers. What an awesome way to start the day.

Wednesday Nights

For the last four years, Sarah and I have been getting together every Wednesday night for a ride and dinner. The two years before that, we shared a Saturday morning breakfast and ride. It's been a perfect way to solidify our friendship and add to our "lifetime mileage" accounts. (If my calculations are correct, assuming 4 missed rides per year, we've logged 5760 miles together!).

She recently married her dream man and they are off on a round-the-world tour in early July! Happy days! This does mean, however, that we only have two Wednesdays left. Sad eves!

Here's a lonely full moon photo I snapped on the way home from our third-to-last ride.

Juice Me, Juice My Friend

Just now learned that the Canadian equivalent to GravyDog is JuicePig. You heard it here first.

Cirque De Cycling

Caught up with an old friend on Sunday. He told me one day I'd meet someone who'd say "I know who you are, I've read your blog!". Who knew it would be his very own girlfriend to say it!

Here they are, with my cruiser in front.

The parade.

The people.

(I was trying to look funny not upset!)

The race.

Toast the Beginners!

It was thrilling to ride with several people experiencing their longest distance ride to date on Saturday's beginner french toast ride. Same 40 mile route as the usual french toast ride, but with a slower pace and intention to stay together.

This picture was taken by a member of the VBC (the Village Building Convergance not Vancouver Bike Club). This group beautifies streets and transforms them into human spaces by painting gorgeous murals in intersections.

Columbia Gorge Explorer Loaded Tour - Day 3 & 4

Well, I forgot to bring my charger so didn't take any photos on the last 2 days. Luckily, Richard shot an awesome video from his handlebars! Blogspot won't let me link to it for some reason, so just put http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mn7cRPmrqBw in your browser and go!

We decided to take a crazy alternate route on the morning of day 3, which involved walking up a steep hill of hard-packed dirt and gravel for 20 minutes to a ridge offering the same hard-to-navigate surface, plenty of wind and cows chasing after us.

We were pleasantly surprised to arrive at Cousin's at the same time as some other riders who left camp at the same time we did, but took the traditional route. We made good time!

We climbed up to the Mosier Tunnels, where we laid out in the sun for a nice little while before heading into Hood River.

Day 4 took us to the Charburger by Bridge of the Gods, then up Crown Point to the Vista House. From there, we screamed back into Portland and home again. Great trip!

Columbia Gorge Explorer Loaded Tour - Day 2

We woke up to rain in Home Valley but by the time we left - sunshine! An awesome climb-y 50 mile day. While at Mary Hill Winery (a tour highlight), a wall of ominous gray clouds approached. The cyclists ran inside while the rest of the wine-tasters made a mass exodus to their cars. 10 minutes later, it was sunny and clear again.

Columbia Gorge Explorer Loaded Tour - Day 1

Our first two hours were dry. The rest of the day was drizzly and wet but not too cold. A stop at the Bonneville Spa & Resort was pricey but rejuvenating. Another stop at the brew pub in Stevenson, then on to camp where it was chilly and rainy but the picnic shelter and cards kept us warm. This was the first "Day 1" of the 4 CGE tours I've done where I didn't get a flat tire. Yay.

Richard's first loaded tour!!

Ducks in a row.

Spa time!

Who needs pint glasses when there's a pitcher available?!

Sad faces.

Happy faces.

Peace out!
